3. How has your view on this subject changed after doing the research paper?
1. When speakng about Christianity and the churches stemming from it, you say on page 6 "They use this religion to promote their own agenda of hate and violence." The Holy Bible, a sacred book for Christians, states: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments”(Matthew 22:36-40). Use this contradiciton of a religion based on love, in your paper which states that the religion is used to promote hate and violence.
2. On page 6 you said: Leviticus 20:13 reads as “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” This directly states that homosexuals, if identified, shall be put to death. (believersweb.org) This proves that the Christian faith is somewhat of a shame culture. The punishment is only applicable if found out by the church. So, thus this is promoting in some way, secretive wrong doings. What are some modern day examples of homosexuals being put to death by the church? If the 6th commandment states "you shall not murder", how could a church justify disobeying one of the most important set of rules revered by the Christian faith? 3. In your paper you state: In the New Testament Romans 1:26 tells us that “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into which is against nature.” “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”. In Corinthians 6:9-6:10 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” This provides evidence that the Christian faith is also a guilt culture. This is so because, people who are not allowed into the kingdom of God are to feel guilt for not following God, because whether or not society knows about the wrong doing God always knows. These cited verses are saying that if these sins are commited, the sinners will not 'inherit the kingdom of God' (go to heaven). How does this make Christianity a guilt culture? It does not say that one should feel guilty if they aren't 'let into' the kingdom of God. This was a really interesting paper. Also, consider Jerusalem as a hub for not only Christianity, but for Judaism and Islam as well. This may add to your point in your paper:) ! I thought your paper was really interesting. I thought it was opinion based though. I have 2 questions.
1. Many states in the US have passed laws that now allow gays to marry. Does this mean that the US is a shameful country as well? (page 6) 2. What are some countries that have shame cultures? What are some countries that have guilt cultures? I will ask the other question later.. when i get home :) 1.) "Paganism is more of a general sect of religions instead of its own entity. Some of the religions included under the title of pagan are those such as Hindu, Native American religions, Buddhism, and generally anyone that does not fall into the categories of Christianity, Islam, or Judaism." Where did you find this information, just to clarify, I didn;t think Buddhism or Hinduism are pagan religions.
If of all, your paper was phenomenal! I enjoyed reading it and I really value the work you put in it, great job. I do have some questions that you might want to consider if possible.
1. To what extent is the Old Testament a valid argument when considering the various dominations in Christianity and how they view the Old Testament? 2. Is it right to allow homosexuals to marry under their religion if it is looked down upon or should a new system of marriage form to fit that circumstance? 3. Should a homosexual convert to a religion that accepts them or should they stay in the one that they grew up in? Why stay in a religion that looks down upon homosexuals if you are a homosexual? 4. What did Westboro Baptist Church do? 5. How do limited resources and hunger correlate to the rights of homosexuals? Hope this helps to get your mind thinking!
