Critical Review
The article Ethics, Dialogue and Denial: Responding to Anti-Semitic Discourse on the Web(published: April, 1998), by Shane Borrowman, is set on ensuring the teaching of the basic education of critical web browsing, and intertwines that with topics such as Holocaust denial that are more difficult to discuss within a classroom setting. The main research question throughout this article is; what form of media (television or internet) is a more useful tool for groups to publicize their individual messages? This Idea of interconnecting difficult matters with lessons within the classroom is ideal for allowing students to form their own opinions. The more opinions one has, the easier it is to form new ones and think with one’s own mind.
The teacher and author had his students research the internet for known sites of Holocaust denials as well as did some checking as to how many members of the general population regarded those sites regularly. The class also looked at the number of individuals who own and watch television and what kind of propaganda those who are Holocaust deniers are able to publicize on television, finding television mostly commercialism centralized. They discovered the widening range of internet is also a widening ground for the publicity of Holocaust denial propaganda.
The article as a whole is very beneficial to those who are willing to take the time to read it. The reader is forced outside the realm of their comfort zone and is forced to think of things that may be difficult, or simply uncommon to think of. This article will help me to further my project as it gives me a professional guideline as well as allowed me to think of aspects of my project that I hadn’t gone into much depth about. The future of the internet is very interesting to think about in this manor, perhaps, somewhere down the road, history will only be stored, and probably altered, online.

Batman Iceberg
What Batman Teaches Us About Philosophy by Peter Bebergal
This article discusses the humanism and mindset of the Batman character as a whole over the years in the opinions of the author as well as two well studied men in Psychology and Philosophy. They seem to all come to the consensus that Batman is the super hero the "average joe" can hope to relate to. Because he has no superpowers, he is more relate-able for the common man.
Due to his difficult and traumatic childhood, Batman has a need to punish wrongs and gratify rights. In doing so, he fills a role of god where there is no god otherwise depicted. This is also seen in his extreme ethics and how he responds to those around him.
The matter of Robin was also discussed in this article, as to whether or not it is really ethical to go around simply picking orphan boys up off the streets. Due to the boy's age and general characteristics shown in the 50's when he was first picked up, Robin probably reminded Batman much of himself when he was young and had just lost his own parents. Therefore, to Batman, it would only make sense for him to take him "under his wing" and allow him to learn from some of the mistakes that Batman himself made about society in general early on so as to prevent them in his "younger self".
We see many people acting as "heroes" in today's society as well, though whether or not they truly are to fit the bill is for each to decide for himself. These individuals act for either their own sake or the sake of others. If they were to fall between, they would scarcely fall into the category of heroism at all. This then leads to wondering whether Batman was made as a character who focused on the needs of those around him, or simply longed for the lime-light.
Though Batman seems relate-able enough, his qualities as a "shiny caricature (Mark D. White)" and role as a god-like figure in his society put him on a higher ground in the minds of most. For, who would be willing to fight so many times for so many people he doesn't even know without simply killing the villain opponent?

Project Planning Form- Frances
Field of Study: __ETHICS AND BELIEF SYSTEMS____Chemical Sensitivities/Cultural Differences/Religious Differences
Goal of your project: (include why your research/project is important to your field; how is it going to enhance you as an individual) __I am learning more about myself and my personal beliefs as I go into the differences of religions and their cultural effects, specifically on those with Chemical Sensitivities that cause medical issues like myself. This is allowing me to compare my personal views on life with the lives of those with similar reactions with different realms of reality. _
Potential Committee Members: (Who would help enhance your project?) __I would like to get the assistance of a local-mission’s pastor, who would have experience in multiple realms of people’s lives and would be able to assist in my desire to go into international missions as well. This said, I would also like to get the assistance of a missionary who has been to the other cultures in which I would like to compare and would have some further incite on that. Military personnel may also be of assistance in this area due to their travels and relations with many diverse people in many situations. __
Research Question: (What are you trying to prove, or contribute to your field?) _How do chemical sensitivities relate in different cultures; such as India, with a mainly Hindu culture, and American society; in relation to the beliefs and religions of those cultures? _
Action: (event, internship – where, why?) __I would like to partake in two internships; one with a mission’s pastor so I could gain some insight into the sort of work I would like to do as a missionary; and two perhaps with the Chinese Baptist Church in Norfolk for translation or assisting with children’s ministry, because language and how one worships are both huge contributing factors in the missions’ field.__
Target Date: (when and why then?) _I would like to participate in one of my internships during my winter break and the other during my spring break; However, If I were to work it out to do them both during my spring break that would be preferred due to a family situation during the holidays.__
Action’s Connectivity to Research: _Missionaries relate directly to multiple cultures as they travel and relate to different religions depending on the area of the world they are traveling to. Languages and translation relate to missions and cultures in that they allow people to interact at a more personal level, where it comes down to the beliefs a person lives by, which can effect health and the body’s reaction to certain exposures. _
Beneficiaries: (Who, besides you, will benefit from your project?)
__Those who also have chemical sensitivities or those who are simply curious about the differences in cultures for the countries and religions I am going to address, will benefit from an increase of knowledge on both accounts that I hope to find in the process of this project.__
Support: (What organizations might you seek out for support or to benefit?)
_I will look for the support of those who I hope to intern with, a local-mission’s pastor as well as the Chinese Baptist Church Norfolk, so as to accomplish as much as I can with their assistance. _
Publicity/Marketing: (How will you specifically market your event, or market yourself to get an internship?)
_I would do well as an intern because it would allow those who I am working with to have the opportunity to have someone to learn the cultures and environment around me. I personally would also benefit because I am a hard worker and do everything I can to remain trustworthy in all of my responsibilities. Those who I intern with would also have the opportunity to use me in every available manner in the future. _
Cost Analysis: (What do you specifically need to buy to make your action happen? How much will it cost you?)
_The only cost I would have to consider is gas in order to get to the internships and time to do what I can to learn everything they have to teach._
Community Service Element: (In what additional ways will you contribute to your community?)
_Because I would like to work with a local-missions’ pastor for my internship, I would like to get in as many local missions’ opportunities as well. This will help me to learn more of relating directly to people around me and supporting those in need of it. _
Sustainability:
_Hopefully the comparison of societies and relation to chemical sensitivities will gain more people’s interest in other cultures and perhaps raise some awareness of chemical sensitivities that I personally struggle with as well. _
Reflection:
_I would like to look back on this project and learn more about myself, my personal beliefs as well as my medical conditions that are difficult to deal with in our kind of society._
